Probationary Licence - Passenger Vehicle
Conditions To obtain a probationary licence, you must:
- Have held a learner's licence for at least:
- 1 year, or
- 8 months, if you pass a practical course in a driving school recognized by CAA-Québec or the Quebec Safety League.
- Pass the SAAQ's road test, which is on appointment only.
Notes:
- A probationary licence is valid for 24 months or until age 25, whichever comes first. During this period, specific penalties apply in the event of a violation of the restrictions that apply to this licence: a 3-month licence suspension, if you have a total of 4 demerit points. The probationary period is subsequently extended an additional 3 months. For holders of a regular driver's licence, the number of demerit points entered on a driving record must remain below 15.
- A probationary licence holder cannot ride as an accompanying driver to assist a learner.
Know that :
Zero alcohol
As the holder of a probationary licence, you are prohibited from driving if you have consumed alcohol. If this restriction is violated, your licence will be immediately suspended for 90 days, 4 demerit points will be added to your driving record resulting in an additional 3-month suspension and a $438 to $865 fine. This amount is subject to change and includes fines provided under the Highway Safety Code, registry fees and a contribution to IVAC, (Please note that additional fees may apply).
