How much time do I have to dispute my ticket?

How much time do I have to dispute my ticket?

You have 30 days from the service of the statement of offence (the date you received it, in person or by mail) to send in your plea. This deadline is printed on the ticket itself.

You have two choices:

  • Plead guilty: you pay the fine and costs, and the demerit points are entered on your record.
  • Plead not guilty: you return the not-guilty plea (by mail, online or in person depending on the court), and you will later receive a notice of hearing. No payment is required at this stage.

IMPORTANT: do not pay your ticket if you wish to contest it. Paying is the same as pleading guilty, and the file is then closed.

If the 30-day deadline has passed, all is not lost: depending on the situation, a revocation of judgment can be requested.

The simplest way: scan your ticket or entrust your file to us. We send the not-guilty plea for you, request the evidence and represent you at the hearing, anywhere in Quebec.
